Spanish Foreign Extitular says Mideast be a priority if FAO chief. Beirut, May 11 () .- The Spanish ex-minister of Foreign Affairs Miguel Angel Moratinos said in Beirut today that the Middle East be a priority if he becomes director general of the Directorate of the Organization of United Nations for the Food and Agriculture (FAO).
"In my program I have put the Middle East, the Mediterranean, as the new priority areas of FAO's intervention," Moratinos told reporters, who stressed the need, eve isk, for "a central role to FAO in global governance. "
Moratinos are visiting several countries of the Maghreb and the Middle East to gather support for his nomination as director general of the UN agency, which should be chosen from the upcoming June 25 and July 2.
